“Eastside Roots - a gardening Hub for the East side of Bristol. Connecting people and plants”
About Eastside Roots
Demonstration gardens, artwork, children's play train, plants for sale - there is lots to see and do at our Community Garden Hub.
Eastside Roots is a 'not for profit' workers co-operative that evolved from the Bristol Permaculture Group's idea to provide a 'gardening hub' for Easton and the wider Bristol community ('Permaculture' is derived from the concept of permanent agriculture. It is a design-based tool for creating sustainability by observing and working with nature). We are rejuvenating the derelict land next to Stapelton Road train station, creating a safe, social, positive & thriving community green space. It is a forum for skills and knowledge share, education, plant & seed sale, resource hire as well as holding events and celebrations. The project has been guided by the community and we wish to maximise their input.
Funding came from Neighbourhood Renewal, with the support of Bristol Eastside Traders (BEST). We have also received help from The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens, Scarman Trust and the Co-operative Development Agency (CDA).
Already we have been nominated for two awards, appeared in The Guardian newspaper and held two very successful community fayres.
In addition to the station site we have breathed new life into the green space at Trinity Community Arts Centre creating a flourishing garden with edible and flowering plants. We have built a poly-tunnel to grow plants for the garden and to sell at the Station.
There are a number of ways you can get involved with this new & exciting project such as volunteering, helping to organise the project, attending our training courses, workshops and events, or donating plants & materials. Lots of people have already benefited by gaining new skills, meeting new friends, improving their community and enjoying fresh air and exercise.
